Miniball tournament

This week we were excited to travel to Gore to attend a miniball tournament hosted by Callum and Susie from Sport Southland Gore.

This was our chance to get into teams and use all the miniball skills Callum has taught us during the term!

We had a fantastic day and are very grateful to Miss van den Beld, Mrs Knapp, Mrs Ferguson and Ms Luxmoore for coaching a team each - we had three teams in the top eight section for the finals (and are pretty sure the fourth team was ninth!)

Thanks also must go to Mrs Casserly, Mrs Stuart, Mrs Hartley and Mr Miranda for providing cars (as well as the three mothers mentioned earlier).

Here are photos of the teams, and at the bottom you will find a link to a movie of photos and videos from the games:

Term Three Weeks 9 & 10

Just four more days until the holidays and we are all ready for those!

The past two weeks have been so busy, with our senior production happening last Wednesday - two full rehearsals followed by an afternoon performance for the whole school and then an evening performance for a very full audience of parents, siblings, grandparents and friends.

Everyone did an absolutely fantastic job in the show and Mrs C and Miss V are extremely proud of everyone - so proud that they are shouting some treats at a cast party this afternoon while we watch the video of our performance!

During the show Murphy and his friends travelled in the time machine to look for Jo - they visited the early American Indians, the Incas, the ancient Egyptians and the ancient Chinese - only to find that Jo was back at school, having been away eating a burger!  It was an awesome adventure though and every actor did a super job!

Term 3 Week Eight

Hi-de-ho!  How is everyone?

The Kokako pupils have had a fantastic week with Miss Van den Beld running the classroom programme, and Mrs C has been catching up with plans for the production and assessments and taking one group for reading.

There have been a few small changes just to keep us on our toes such as new reward systems, different attention signals and, a major change, of having coooperative tables as workspaces (with the option of working on the floor, sitting at a different table each day, or even standing up to work at the taller table). This is something Miss V and Mrs C wanted to trial after seeing it in action at Wanaka Primary School.

We are enjoying the variety and the flexibility to choose where we work, and mostly are using the workspaces to get our work done quickly and quietly.

Allynah was our VIP of the week.
For writing we wrote poems or thankyou letters in regards to our Waituna Lagoon visit and have now begun working on advertisements for our Senior Production.

In reading each group is working on learning about one of the ancient cultures that are visited as part of the Senior Production - the Incas, the American Indians, the Chinese and the Egyptians.  The Epsilon reading group have been reading about whitebaiting.

For maths Miss V's numeracy group is practising their skills with measurement of length and area, with a lot of practical tasks to complete.

Miss V has been introducing us to the various elements of dance and drama, a good build-up to our show, and has been taking the Year 5 & 6 group for singing practice and rehearsals of scene one for the show.  It is all getting very exciting as we get into preparing our costumes and props!

A new Take Two News item was released this week on our You Tube channel...based on the school learning value of PARTICIPATION...well done to Freya, Kobie and Renee for their work on this!

Term 3 Week Seven - Waituna Lagoon

Better late than never! Last week was busy busy and ended with a field trip for our science inquiry.

What an awesome trip we had, visiting the Waituna Lagoon and wetland area with Julie Clifton from Environment Southland.

We headed down there at 9.30 and spent the day looking for the wildlife, checking out the plant life, and then carrying out some tests of the water in the lagoon.

The weather was great and our parent helpers were awesome - thanks to Mr Lindsay, Mr Casserly, Mrs Knapp and Mrs Ferguson for giving us their time to help out!

There will be a Take Two News episode coming up soon and all the photos are here on the Edendale School Facebook page:
