Term Two - end of term!

What a fun-tastic week we have had!  Busy busy busy!
Jordan was our VIP this week!
It was exciting to have our Winter Warm-up on a day that had actually snowed - while it meant school started a little later and we didn't get as many activities done as we'd planned, it was great to have an authentic atmosphere.

Here is a video with some photos of the day (there seems to be a wee technical glitch when the video reaches the trees photo - if it freezes up (excuse the pun) click ahead to the middle of the video timeframe then click back and it seems to get going then!)

We had pupils dressed up as snowmen, ice hockey players, couch potatoes, snowboarders, netballers and rugby players and more!

We published our winter experience sentences in the form of a huge class campfire and shared this at the celebration time.

Many of us then enjoyed our purchase from the Student Council barbecue, helping raise $300 towards an auction prize for the Battle of the Bridge fundraiser being held in the holidays.  We enjoyed sausages, steak and chops - yum, yum, yum!

Our speeches were presented this week and what a lot of awesome speakers we have in this school!  You can view videos of our speeches here on our YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/Rm6Edendale

We are looking forward to the ski trip on the first Friday next term and we will enjoy our holidays as we have worked hard this term!

Term Two - Weeks 8 & 9

Hi again everyone!

Our Kokako class has grown again - welcome to Ricci and Allynah who have joined us - we  are thrilled to have new friends with us and look forward to learning more about you as the weeks pass!

Last week we thanked and farewelled Miss Van den Beld as she ended her teacher-training posting.  With her we have enjoyed carrying out some scientific investigations involving mould, putting together our speeches and making some card print robots.  We look forward to the lessons she will provide for us during her five-week posting late in Term Three.

Maddy was the Senior MVP for the value of Compassion!
With only one week left in the term we are gearing up for a break. We have concluded our technology inquiry. Some of our bird feeders were out on trial last week, with the miserable weather conditions showing up some major design faults for our prototypes – all aspects we reflected on this week!

Congratulations to Thomas, who placed third overall in the 11 year-old boys' race at the Southland Primary Schools' Cross-Country last Friday, and to Marina who place 14th in the 10 year-old girls's race - a great effort from you both and a great experience for Jake, Brittany and William as well!

Congratulations also to Sarah (dance), Shaz (piano), Jake and Kobie (dance) and Brittany (and her group - dance) for being finalists in the Student Council's event 'Edendale's Got Talent'.  It was a great show and we are very proud to have so many Kokako pupils sharing their talents -well done to all of you!

Gabby was this week's VIP - thanks for the chocolate
cake Gabby!
Marina was last week's VIP!
This week we will comment on something we enjoyed doing when Miss Van den Beld was here and why...

Term 2 Weeks 6 & 7

Kia ora tatou!

Another busy couple of weeks has passed, with only three more until the holidays!

This week we welcomed two new pupils to Room Kokako: Tyla has joined us from Riversdale School and Nic has joined us from Hillside School. We are thrilled to have both of you with us and hope you enjoy your time here at Edendale Primary School!

Sadly today we farewell our good friend and classmate Sam Bastion as he and his family head off to Central Otago. We will miss Sam's entertainment and wish him all the very best for the future!

Last week we held the Lower Mataura Valley schools' cross-country over at the Edendale Recreation Grounds. Congratulations to all the Room Kokako pupils who gave this race their very best of effort and persistence and well done to those who were placed in the top six of their race. It was really good to be able to put all our hours of practice into the actual race, and we are all very pleased with our achievements of finishing the race to the best of our ability.

We are especially proud of Marina and Thomas who each won their respective boys or girls race, with Marina being the fastest girl and Thomas being the fastest boy!

Heading off to the Southland crosscountry next week will be Thomas, Marina, William, Jake, Brittany, and Freya. Good luck crew!

Miss Van den Beld has finished week two of her three week posting; she has got us started on writing our speeches (which are arguments on a topic), creating robot-themed cardboard prints, learning about time and number patterns for maths, as well as setting up some experiments to grow mould and see what conditions mould grows best in.

Gabby, Brittany and Maddy get their prints made.
Last week we had eight students head to Invercargill for the SouthSpell competition (involving spelling, antonyms, synonyms, homophones, Maori words etc). Shaz, Gabby, Kieran and Sarah's team were placed 9th= out of the 35 teams, while William, Maria, Caitlin and Renee's team was placed 19th in the field. Great effort to both teams - a wonderful chance to try out your spelling skills!

Team 2 in action!
Our bird feeders have been created and are ready to be tested - we will check them out on Monday to see what the birds think!

Sam and his bird feeder!

Josh R was this week's VIP.
Have a great weekend everyone!
