Week 6 Reading Response

This week's poem is by James K Baxter: The Tree House

John and Judith and Billy and me,
We have our own house in a willow tree.
It's built of boards and battens and tin
From the packing case that the tractor came in.

Up the slippery trunk of the tree we climb
With a rope to help us, one at a time;
But once we're up and safe inside
Only the wind knows where we hide.

Down in the paddock the brown horse neighs
And in stormy weather the whole house sways
Like a ship at sea while the branches roar
And birds fly past at the open door.

Today we designed our dream tree houses and shared these designs with our groups.

LMV Athletics

What a great day we had yesterday at the LMV Athletics in Wyndham!  The weather was just right and we were able to run, jump and throw to our heart's content, putting into action all the practice we have been doing for the last three weeks.

We will post our results as soon as we have confirmation, but there were quite a few Room Six Kokako pupils who placed in their events so the list will be a goodie!
We look forward to finding out who will be eligible to represent the LMV at the Southland event.

Week 5 already! - Student Council

Wow, the term is flying by and we are into week 5 already.

Today we are heading off to athletics to put into action all the practice we have done with our shot-put, long jump, high jump, discus and running.  Wish us luck!

The Year Sixes were welcomed in Week Three with an afternoon tea and guest speakers that included Mr McKenzie (our principal), Mrs Lois Heads (BOT Chairperson) and Aaron Barclay (junior triathlete champion).

We also had a panel of expupils whom the Year Sixes asked questions of.  A huge thank you to Mitchell, Bayley, Samantha, Sean and Shaunni for their input.

Aaron spoke to the group about the importance of using failure as a stepping stone to success - using disappointment to motivate yourself to work harder and succeed.  His words were very inspirational and down to earth and parents, staff and children alike all enjoyed his speech.  We wish him all the best for his sporting season this year.

The Student Council were announced.  The successful candidates are: Liam Cameron, Anton Musalov, Rhiannon Gorman, Kim Heads, Josh Jolly and Mckenzie Smith.  We know these pupils will do a fantastic job representing the pupils throughout the year. Congratulations to the six of you and commisserations to the others who missed out.
